In the name of the organizer of CHOCOVISION 2018, Antoine de Saint-Affrique, CEO of Barry Callebaut, just closed the fourth edition of the international biennial conference. Every two years, more than 200 leading personalities from industry, governments and civil society come together in Davos, Switzerland, to work together on securing a sustainable chocolate future for all stakeholders along the value chain – from the farmer to the consumer.

The new structure of the sustainability team is in place. One of its members is Krishnakumar Pillai, Head of Partnerships. Krishna will be in charge of identifying and working with external partners on sustainability. He is keen on impactful projects and getting the Forever Chocolate movement going! Today Barry Callebaut joins thousands, if not millions around the globe celebrating International Women’s Day.

Barry Callebaut launched its first Forever Chocolate Pilot in Indonesia. This is the first of a series of five pilot programs planned in cocoa origin countries that are intended to test theories of change in our quest to accelerate impact in sustainable cocoa production. We aim to increase the income of farmers, eradicate child labor and become carbon positive. Oliver Von Hagen, who is responsible for the Forever Chocolate pilots, provides further details.

The Cocoa Horizons Foundation has released its year-end review highlighting the efforts and achievements it has implemented in 2016/17.

If the chocolate industry does not commit to reducing its carbon footprint and achieve zero net deforestation in its supply chain, the ecosystems that provide chocolate ingredients will rapidly erode. Obviously, we could not let that happen.
