Organic claims are increasingly prominent in cakes, biscuits and cereal products. Within 5 years, the proportion of organic claims in new launches went up in all categories; up to 1/3 of breakfast cereals new product developments (NPD), 1/4 of cereal bars and 15% of biscuit innovations.
In proportion, breakfast cereals and biscuits are the most dynamic categories, representing almost 75% of all organic baked goods and cereal NPD.
New launches and consumer perception
As seen in “Organic, from hype to a new lifestyle”, consumers associate organic with being natural, fresh and healthy. For new product developments, it means lists of ingredients that are as clear and short as possible, or recipes made simple. A growing number of organic NPD also feature a free-from claim.
