Making sustainable chocolate the norm

In 2018, Van Houten took an exciting leap into the future: all cocoa in Van Houten chocolate drinks became officially UTZ certified! This guarantee ensures all cocoa used in Van Houten powders today is sustainably sourced from farm to shop shelf. By serving them, you support the cocoa growing communities that take care of their crops daily.

What’s the UTZ mission?

In short: create a world in which sustainable farming is the norm and cocoa farmers thrive. The cocoa sector faces several challenges: poor soil fertility management, ageing tree stocks and uncontrolled deforestation are just some of them. 

Another part lies with the cocoa farmers and their communities. Poor labor conditions and low income make it hard to earn a living, and educate future generations. Together, we help farmers and their families to fulfil their ambitions and safeguard the world’s resources.
