The single greatest solution to fighting climate change
According to Project Drawdown, the global leader in ranking climate solutions, preventing food waste is the single most effective solution to prevent global warming. If the emissions related to food waste were aggregated like for a country, food waste would be the third-largest contributor of greenhouse gases right after the US and China.
The Upcycled Food Association (UFA) is a non-profit organization that is committed to reducing food waste by developing the upcycled food economy through research, strategy, networking, and policy advocacy.
Upcycled foods are described by the UFA as products made with ingredients that otherwise would not have made it to human consumption, are sourced and produced using verifiable supply chains, and have a positive impact on the planet. The Upcycled Certification Program is the world’s first third-party certification program for upcycled food ingredients and products. The certification guides consumers on which products are upcycled and allows them to prevent food waste with every purchase they make.
Cabosse Naturals as pioneer in the low waste revolution of the cacaofruit
Cabosse Naturals is a proud member of the Upcycled Food Association and we’re leading the low waste revolution in cacaofruit: rather than seeing 70% of the cacaofruit discarded to waste, Cabosse Naturals upcycles the entire cacaofruit and creates a range of 100% pure cacaofruit ingredients. Delicious and nutritious ingredients to create tasty products, such as a new cacaofruit gelato.
This year, we won the ‘Sustainable Ingredient Award’ at the Sustainable Food Awards 2021. The award was granted to us for our nutritious cacaofruit ingredients that are making a sustainable difference in terms of environmental and social impact. Earlier this year, we were a finalist during the World Innovation Awards 2021 in the category ‘Most Innovative Ingredient’ and have received a “Highly Commended” award.
CaPao is now Upcycled Certified!
CaPao, a snack brand created by Mondelēz International’s SnackFutures, is the first to communicate ‘Upcycled Certified’ on pack in partnership with Cabosse Naturals!
CaPao is a plant-powered bite made from upcycled cacaofruit. The zesty fruity pulp is combined with nuts, seeds, and other fruits to create delicious and healthy snacks.
Shannon Neumann Associate Director, SnackFutures Innovation, Mondelēz International says:
“It’s very exciting to be at the forefront of elevating consumers’ understanding of and demand for upcycled ingredients and foods. The more people choose Upcycled Certified brands like CaPao, the more progress we can make in reducing food waste and creating a snacking world that is good for people, kind to the planet, and deliciously fun.”
Why should your brand be Upcycled Certified?
The certification grants consumers clear guidance about the presence of upcycled ingredients in their food and beverages. A study by food and beverage industry expert, Mattson, reported that more than 50% of customers showed an increased intent to buy when the Upcycled Certified mark was applied on the packaging, already ranking better than other certifications on the market.
The mark improves trust, strengthens the perceived quality of the product, and increases the willingness to consume. It puts the power in the consumer’s hands to decrease global food loss and fight global warming.
