Forever Chocolate is Barry Callebaut’s plan to make sustainable chocolate the norm.

Why sustainability, you may ask?

Because today, our chocolate future looks bleak. In the biggest cocoa producing region in the world - West Africa - poverty runs rampant; children are still working on cocoa farms; climate change is negatively impacting agricultural regions; and, decreasing yields have pushed farmers into protected forests. All of this points to the industry needing a step-change.

why we are launching 'forever chocolate'

Forever Chocolate attempts to provide that change with four bold commitments to address the greatest threats to chocolate.
By 2025:

  • We will eradicate child labor from our supply chain
  • We will lift more than 500,000 cocoa farmers out of poverty
  • We will become carbon and forest positive
  • We will have 100% sustainable ingredients in all of our products

How will we achieve these goals?

To be clear, we don’t have all of the answers.  But, we’re building upon existing initiatives; learning from pilot programs, such as for child labor monitoring and remediation, in order to scale solutions; mapping cacao farmers to measure impact and highlight at-risk communities for child labor and deforestation; developing ambitious replanting and intercropping scenarios; establishing Farm Services Businesses; and, engaging with suppliers to implement sustainability programs, as a start. We invite everyone who loves chocolate to work with us and join the movement, because achieving these targets requires involvement across the industry, from our customers, to governments, to NGOs and more.
