Cocoa

All cocoa raw materials used by Van Leer are verified according to the Cocoa Horizons Program. The goal of Cocoa Horizons Foundation is to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities by promoting sustainable, entrepreneurial agriculture, improved productivity and community development that protects nature and children.

For each Van Leer product you buy, a premium is reallocated in your name to the Foundation. 100% of those premiums directly support the Foundation’s activities within a clear set of goals and strict supervision

Sugar Cane

All the sugar we use is grown in accordance with the requirements of the either Bonsucro or Organic certifications. 

Bonsucro is a metric based standard that supports farmers in improving soil health, GHG emissions reductions, biodiversity stewardship, and upholding labor rights while furthering economic performance.

Milk

Milk

We founded the sustainable milk standard VisionDairy, which pays attention to animal welfare, good farm management and environmental aspects. Van Leer works with several supplying cooperatives that comply with the VisionDairy standard. 

In addition, the milk is climate-friendly: natural feed additives inhibit methane production and thus reduce CO2 and from farmers who are starting their regenerative agriculture journey.

We source vanilla exclusively from our project in Madagascar, directly from 700 smallholder farmers in the north-east of the country.

 In the project, we emphasize Good Agricultural Practices to achieve a high quality as well as diversification measures with cocoa to improve the income and thus the living conditions of the farmers.

Choosing sustainable ingredients is essential to me. It means respecting nature, the producers, and those who enjoy our creations. By working with responsible ingredients, I choose quality, transparency, and a healthier future. It also allows me to create with a clear conscience - and to show that pastry can be a meaningful, committed craft

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have chosen packaging bag that can be recycled for our Van Leer products. 

This decision reflects our dedication to reducing environmental impact while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

What is Cocoa Horizons?

The Cocoa Horizons Foundation is an impact driven program focused on cocoa farmer prosperity and helping build self-sustaining farming communities that protect nature and children. 

The Cocoa Horizons Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization supervised by the Swiss Federal Foundation Supervisory Authority. 

How do I Support Cocoa Horizons?

For each Van Leer product you buy, a premium is reallocated in your name to the Foundation.
