Overview
  • A chocolate dripping wall was the central runway art piece.
  • Belgian Callebaut® Chef Patrick Aubrion and North-American Callebaut® chef Celine Plano created the Finest Belgian Hot Chocolate and spiced it up.

Wieze, Belgium – February 9, 2014 – During the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, Opening Ceremony presented its new Fall/Winter 2014 collection in an impressive chocolate décor created by Callebaut®. The Opening Ceremony fashion show and collection is inspired by founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon’s travels to Belgium. As Callebaut® chocolate has been crafted in the small Belgian town of Wieze from bean to chocolate since 1911, to Opening Ceremony there was no way around Callebaut® for their Belgium themed fashion show.

Chocolate dripping wall as central runway art piece
The eye-catching art piece on the run way was definitely the chocolate wall that was brought to life during the show. The wall was carved with the signature fingerprint design from the Opening Ceremony Fall/Winter 2014 collection. As chocolate was poured from the top of the carved wall, the finger print design was filled with dripping chocolate resulting in a dynamic chocolate art piece.

Finest Belgian Hot Chocolate & Spice
The sensorial chocolate experience started when guests arrived and received a limited edition chocolate bar with the signature finger print that was custom made by Callebaut® for the Fall/Winter 2014 Opening Ceremony Fashion show and continued after the show. Belgian Callebaut® Chef Patrick Aubrion and North-American Callebaut® chef Celine Plano served guests the signature finest Belgian Hot Chocolate made with Callebaut®’s iconic 811 Dark and W2 White Chocolate. An extra spicy touch was provided by the Cocoa Nibs spice mills filled with exotic spices such as Garam Masala, Persian Blue Salt and Chili.

Opening Ceremony Collection
The Fall/Winter 2014 collection is inspired by Belgium, which can be seen through the various motifs, designs and fingerprint print throughout the collection. The canals and waterways connecting merchants and major trade routes, as well as the different trades prevalent in Antwerp were also focal points seen throughout the men’s and women’s collections. Men’s collection focuses on contrast, bold color-blocking representing classic tailoring shapes, typically sporty zippers are exposed only on a single side. Women’s collection incorporates pebble glass beads, glazed-over graphic prints to reference the large diamond trade business in Antwerp. Reflective palettes are used to produce shapes and designs, which highlight and distort light as diamonds do. Footwear uses hidden elastic closures and “color/material” blocked wedge soles. Both collections represent the inspiration in a unique yet cohesive way.
