Remote cocoa farming areas often lack medical facilities and access to clean water. We work with farmers and communities to improve access to water and basic health care services.
The program has five areas of focus:
- Providing water
- Sanitation (Hygiene)
- Health Facilities
- Health Services
Barry Callebaut inaugurated a medical center in Goh village in 2008 that serves some 18,000 people who live in the surrounding communities. A program to provide water is underway with 7 bore holes and water systems having been built and inaugurated in 2012 and 2013. We have distributed nearly 1300 mosquito nets and will subsidize access to water filters that turn untreated water into safe drinking water. We sponsored almost 1,000 vaccination treatments.
Rainwater harvesting systems and latrines are being completed at two schools in Ghana.
